What are crime shows doing to todays society?

i need to write an 1500 word essay and annotated bibiography, and i chose the topic "Are the current 'Gangster' shows like 'Underbelly' and 'Gangs of OZ' likey to make more people want to turn to gangs and violence". there are far more crime shows on tv these days, so i need to know what it is doing to people and is it turning people into criminals?
