Why did this bi woman call herself a ?

I met this woman at a bar. She was probably in her late 30s and she wearing a ring and I noticed it instantly. It was strange since I could have sworn she was hitting on me but when I asked her about the ring she seemed disappointed. She responded she is married and she's in a committed monogamous relationship with her husband. I asked her what she was doing there and she said she was there because she considers herself a and feels more accepted among s. I wasn't convinced but I let it go and left her. Now, I fully understand the word has connotations far beyond ism but there was something unsettling to me about her usage of the word. I mean for all practical purposes she is a straight women who benefits from the male privilege. Of course, She can call herself anything she wants but I still don't get it. Please educamate me. This is really puzzling to me.
