Can we learn family values from birds?

Most bird species are monogamous, and the father stays with the mother to help support the kids (chicks). The males are often times brightly colored. Females find this attractive, but I’ve heard that these bright colors are his evolutionary way of protecting the mother, since predators will see him before they see her. Some birds, like ducks, mate for life.
